Completing First Cycle Requirements
Courses for the First Cycle may be taken at an accredited Catholic institution of theology, on- campus or on-line. Franciscan University of Steubenville has incorporated the First Cycle of studies into undergraduate and graduate theology programs. Courses may be taken there or FUS courses may be used for descriptive purposes in considering other programs. Other requirements apply for acceptance into CUA.
Franciscan University of Steubenville (hereafter “FUS”) students who have completed the degree requirements through the courses specified below in the Bachelor of Arts in Theology or the Bachelor of Arts in Catechetics or Master of Arts in Theology and Christian Ministry will be considered to have completed the First Cycle or preparatory cycle for the study of canon law. [1] Although THE 110 is relevant to this requirement of the first cycle, the requirement could be fulfilled by completing both THE 211 and THE 212.
[2] The Introduction to Canon Law course is part of the first cycle courses and serves to introduce students to the field of canon law to assist in determining further study.

[4] FUS students, even those who complete LAT 103, 104, 203, and 204, will take the placement exam administered by CUA’s Department of Greek and Latin on behalf of the School of Canon Law.
[5] LAT 103, 104, 203, and 204 are not required by FUS for the Masters of Arts in Theology and Christian Ministry, although students who wish to study Canon Law at Catholic University are encouraged to study Latin. FUS Master’s students, even those who take Latin courses at FUS, will take the placement exam administered by Catholic University’s Department of Greek and Latin on behalf of the School of Canon Law.
