Reverend Prof. Andrea D'Auria, F.S.C.B., J.C.L.
Ordinary Professor of Canon Law  

Reverend Doctor Andrea D'Auria is member of the Priestly Fraternity of the Missionaries
of St. Charles Borromeo – a Clerical Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right, is
currently the Procurator General of the Society to the Holy See, as well as a General
Councilor.

In 1988, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Catholic University of the Sacred
Heart in Milan, with thesis written under the direction of Prof. Giorgio Feliciani and
entitled: “Impediments to Marriage in the Post-Conciliar Codification Process.”
He obtained a Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology in June 1991 from the Pontifical
Lateran University in Rome and a Licentiate in Canon Law from the same University,
with a thesis on “The Nature and Purposes of Societies of Apostolic Life and the
Juridical Condition of the Members,” under the direction of Prof. Domingo J. Andrès.
In May 1996, he earned summa cum laude a Doctorate in Canon Law from the
Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, defending a dissertation entitled “Imputability in
Canon Penal Law,” with the memorable Prof. Velasio De Paolis as the dissertation
director.

Professor D’Auria taught Canon Law from 1997 to 2000 at the Pontifical International
Theological Institute for Marriage and Family in Gaming (Austria). From 2009 to 2020,
he served as a visiting professor at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in
Rome, and since August 2013 at the Washington section of the same Institute.
He began teaching in Rome in 2000 with the Faculty of Canon Law of the Pontifical
Urban University. Since March 2009, he has been an ordinary professor at that
institution, specializing in General Norms, Administrative Law, and Special Processes,
and currently serving as the pro-dean of the faculty.
Professor D’Auria is currently a consultant to the Dicastery for the Evangelization of
Peoples, a Consultant to the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, and a member of
the Dicastery for the Laity, Family, and Life.

He also serves currently the Director of the International Center of Communion and
Liberation in Rome.

In addition to all these remarkable achievements, Professor D’Auria has authored
numerous academic papers as well as monographs, including a major commentary on
the General Norms of the Code, co-authored with Velasio de Paulis.
