Lecture Summary

"Vatican II and the Social Teaching of the Catholic Church insistently defend the acknowledgement of human dignity and the protection of human rights. The Church addresses this demand to states and those who govern them. But what is the relevance of human dignity and human rights for the Church herself and for her own law? What is the relationship between human rights and the rights and duties of all the faithful (cc. 208-223 CIC)? Is there a close or even inseparable relationship between human dignity and human rights? The answer depends first and foremost on what 'human dignity' and what 'law' stand for in canon law."
